A Quick Save Protects Fetus with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

Overview

Kajal Singh and Ankit Singh were expecting a baby and went to a private clinic for a regular check-up and ultrasound. It was Kajal's 20th week when doctors noticed unusual ultrasound reports.  They consulted the doctors of the Child Care Institute of Sharda Hospital. The doctors and their team examined the ultrasound reports of Kajal.

The fetus was diagnosed with congenital diaphragmatic hernia on the left side. It is a malformation of the diaphragm which pushes the abdominal organs into the chest cavity. The condition hinders proper lung formation in the body.

The doctors decided to perform a fetoscopy - an endoscopic surgical procedure performed on the fetus.  The surgery lasted more than an hour and was successful. The development of the fetal lung was normal now to which the couple had a sigh of relief.

Ankit, Kajal's husband says,

"The doctors and the team at the Child Care Institute were so humble and readily available all the time. Even after the surgery, they kept a close contact and closely monitored the baby’s condition", said.
